October LA: Part IV, Day 5 & 6

Missin’ LA so here’s a post about what I ate the last time I was there. I tried a few new-ish spots mixed in with some old regular spots.

Day 5 Eats:

Chosun Galbee (my favorite KBBQ place)

img_9596

I usually get their Chosun Galbee, or their flower meat. All prime cuts. melts in your mouth!

Homibing

img_5248

very cute presentation. not sure if i loved the mango shaved snow, though.

Choe Kang Jip

img_9684

another celeb chef baek jong won restaurant. the spicy jok bal is spicy for most and has an herbal-y taste. not enough meat and a lot of bone and skin. the sundae guk was not impressive.

The Kimbap

Processed with Snapseed.
Processed with Snapseed.

the owner of gaju kimbap opened this new place and their tuna kimbap [add cheese] is still good!

they modernized the decor and also updated their menu.

Day 6 Eats:

M Grill

img_5246

an oldie but goodie. better than other Brazilian BBQ spots. all the meats are well seasoned and not salty. pictured is their top sirloin. love their pão de queijo and their grilled pineapple is a MUST!

Panino Giusto Cupertino: First US Location

This Milan-based restaurant has stores in London, Tokyo, & Hong Kong.

…and Cupertino gets their first location in the US!

look at all that cured meat!

img_4229

They also have a variety of cheeses. My fave was the 27 month aged Parmigiano Reggiano.

img_4227

My fave from these is the schiacciata calabra because I like a little heat in my cured meats.

Got to try two Michelin-starred Paninis created by Claudio Sadler**

**Milano 2015: 26 months Parma ham, romaine, artichoke cream, parmigiano reggiano cream, balsamic vinegar flakes, arugula, black pepper

Giusto: Prosciutto cotto, Mozzarella, anchovy, tomato, mustard sauce

Hey @willbakeforshoes, can you hold my paninis for a photo? #NoShame @panino_giusto’s very first US location is in Cupertino! #BayAreaEats

LA Day 4 Photo Diary

I am sooo behind! But here is my photo diary [day 4]  from my last trip to my home [LA! I refuse to call it anything else] . I tried quite a few new places… well, new to me at least!

Day 4 Eats:

Love Coffee

Relax & Go Cappuccino [chamomile, lavender, espresso, condensed milk] I thought this was lovely if you love lavender and a little sweetness to your capp.

a really photogenic drink! but i think the taste could have been better.

Sulga House of Beef Soup

they revamped the old jinju gomtang into a healthier version using organic ingredients. it is not the original owner but from a former employee who got permission to open shop.

Churro Boss

Can’t say no to churro bites @_churroboss_ #LAEats

This churro truck makes churros fresh in front of your eyes.

Milk + T

[they were right next to the churro boss so had to try]

Don’t you just hate it when the boba to drink ratio is off? Well you don’t have to worry about that here because this truck has a self-serve toppings bar. I added boba, aloe, chia, basil seeds & lychee jelly!

Onsen SF: R&R in the Tenderloin

This weekend, I had the chance to visit Onsen, which will soon be opening to the public on 11/11.

It is a holistic spa/tea room/restaurant/treatment room all rolled into one.

img_3606

A hidden gem in the TL

img_3611

This hallway contains 6 treatment rooms for massage/acupuncture.

It leads into the communal bath area.

Check out their gallery for more photos.

In the front of the space, there is a restaurant with tea service.

img_3612

Fresh plant-driven menu that is heavily Asian-inspired.

Pickled vegetables, kakuni lamb, halibut sashimi, jook.

img_3613

Finish the meal off with some tea. They also have cocktails and lemon kombucha.

Halloween 2016 in Shibuya

Hope everyone had a great Halloween weekend.

Here’s a quick photo diary of my Halloween in Tokyo!

I was surprised that Halloween was really big in Japan. The roads were closed off so people can wander the streets of Shibuya and have a fun & safe time. I saw a lot of great costumes. Here are just a few.

And of course, food post to follow.

img_2941

The streets were packed with people! This picture doesn’t even capture the madness.

img_2170

Clearly, I am not the only fan of McDonald’s.

img_2942

The creepiest couple

img_2945

These two guys needed assistance from Elmo & Ghostface.

Lots of cars were parked out on the streets
