recipe | summer strawberry watermelon smoothie bowl that Outshines all others

this post is sponsored by Outshine

When I think summertime, I think of watermelon and strawberry ice pops. Both sound so refreshing! Ice cream month just came to an end but you can still enjoy watermelon & strawberries all summer long with this quick & easy strawberry watermelon smoothie bowl recipe. This is a great way to keep cool while enjoying a healthy snack.

Outshine Strawberry Fruit Bars are made with real fruit.

Here are some of the toppings I will be adding to my smoothie bowl. I like berries & chia seeds so I will add them as my toppings.

I chilled some of the fruit toppings because I need this to be extra cold & refreshing on a hot summer day. I also added mint to add an extra bit of freshness.

I think using the watermelon as a bowl is a creative & fun way to present smoothie bowls for guests. And not to mention, it saves you from doing a dish or two. Enjoy this easy recipe on a hot summer day because #TheresAnIceCreamForThat!

serving: 2 bowls

ingredients

1 mini watermelon

2 Outshine Strawberry Fruit Bars

juice from 1/2 of a lime

garnish

watermelon balls

handful strawberries, whole or sliced

handful blueberries, whole or sliced

handful raspberries, whole or sliced

tablespoon chia seeds

sprig of mint

slices of lime

* drizzle of honey [optional] for added sweetness

*any toppings that you would like

materials

melon baller

blender

directions

1. Cut watermelon in half & scoop out the inside. Use the melon baller to scoop out round balls for some pieces and set those aside for garnish. Save the empty halves, for they will serve as bowls for your smoothie.

2. Freeze the watermelon scoops for one hour or until frozen.

3. Place the frozen cut-up watermelon pieces, lime juice, and Outshine Strawberry Fruit Bars into the blender & blend until it becomes thick & smooth in consistency.

3.  Put the contents into the hollowed-out watermelon halves.

4. Garnish with toppings of choice & enjoy!

Let me know what toppings you would add & how you liked my recipe!

*Outshine comes in a variety of flavors and right now you can stock up and save.

SF | Dinerlist app launch

Compensation for this post was provided by Dinerlist. Opinions expressed here are my own.

dinerlist has just launched in the san francisco bay area. to celebrate, at the bottom of this post, there will be a link for a chance to win an iphone x!

it is an app that helps people find new restaurants, bars, and cafes in their immediate area without having to look through millions of photos and reviews; it also shows any deals/promos that the establishment might be having.

dinerlist might entice you to try that one restaurant you always pass by but never thought to go into. or  it may even get you to try a new menu item at a place you’ve already been to, which was the case for me.

i was looking through dinerlist and came across mr. t cafe. i go there occasionally to get their twister potato fries or egg puffs. i saw on dinerlist that they had a 10% off drinks promotion so i decided to go and try their drinks this time.

i thought, why not try their drinks at 10% off?

i got two drinks [instead of one] because one was 10% off. here shown are the milk tea with seas salt & strawberry milk tea.

download the app & try it for yourself and see what items you would try through their promotions.

Goby: A Modern Electric Toothbrush

this is my first ever electric toothbrush so i had to share.

i like the simple & sleek design. i’m not that into colors so a little splash of color (or just black, white or gold) is ideal for me.

the colors available are: midnight, goby blue, magenta & tangerine.

the brush kit comes with a magnetic usb charger + outlet adapter + hygenic stand.

the magnetic usb charger can be used on its own to charge the toothbrush, making it very portable.

or it also can slide into the hygenic stand when you are at home. [shown in midnight & magenta]

i like how it pauses each time you have to switch quadrants. and there is an indicator light that comes on to remind me to replace my brush head.

the brush kit is very affordable ($65) & $50 if you subscribe to their brush replacement package.

also, Goby donates a percentage of all sales to help provide dental services to people around the world which is great!

2017 Winter Fancy Food Show: Wild Garden Foods

This is my second year attending the Fancy Food Show in SF.

I had the pleasure of meeting the people at Wild Garden, which brings the taste of the mediterranean to your home.

Ziyad is the parent company, specializing in mediterranean & middle eastern products.

wild garden is based in chicago & was originally known for their hummus.

they started branching out to quick marinades & heat + serve pilafs.

i had a chance to sample their persian & chicken shawarma. they were loaded with flavor.

wild garden uses natural and healthy ingredients, which is a plus.

they sent me a tasting box to try & i can’t wait to try them.

you can purchase their products online or find them through a store locator on their site.

DeLicious DeLuscious Cookies & Milk

DeLuscious Cookies

Happy Holidays!

I have had this place bookmarked for YEARS and I was so glad that I finally got the chance to try them.

It’s not a retail store with cookies on display but they do allow walk-ins; you would have to choose from whatever they have available at the time and sometimes they sell out so it is probably good to call before heading over.

If you call a few hours ahead during nonpeak days, they may be able to prepare the cookies you want! Shhh!

this is where you pick up the cookies. (it is their HQ.)

this is the stairway that leads to their offices/pick-up location/kitchen.

love the handmade hat box. perfect for gifting.

classics

cinnamon brûlée

chocolate decadence

chocolate chip

oatmeal raisin

peanut butter

peanut butter chocolate

couture (changes seasonally)

white chocolate macadamia nut cranberry

ginger spice

chocolate peppermint

red velvet chocolate brownie

butterscotch blondie

vegan

vegan gluten-free chocolate chip

special edition

chocolate bing cherry (Spielberg’s fave!)

These DeLicious DeLuscious cookies are available for pick-up, hand delivery, and they even ship internationally.

I also like that they also do a lot of charity events; they give back to the community.

My faves: chocolate chip, cinnamon brûlée, chocolate bing cherry.  They are crispy around the edges and chewy in the center. The bing cherry surprisingly goes well with the chocolate.

Owner, Lydia Shayne, is a self-taught baker who takes pride in her cookies. She does not use preservatives and  uses the best ingredients possible in these hand-crafted cookies. FYI, the bing cherries used the the chocolate bing cherry cookie are from washington. She also creates her own blend of quinoa and rice flours for the gluten-free options.

I will definitely be back to try more of their flavors.

CRUSTACEAN SF: Ăn: To Eat cookbook demo by Chef Helene An

When I think of Crustacean’s, I think of their famous roast crab & garlic noodles.

If you don’t know already, the An Family owns multiple restaurants in SoCal & SF. Their first restaurant, Thanh Long, which I have been to, is located in the Outer Sunset.

img_7948

I was excited to attend this event to watch Chef Helene An cook something up in front of our eyes… And also because I was secretly hoping that she would cook us up some garlic noodles. Hehe.

Processed with Snapseed.

Here is the menu of the items from her new cookbook that she previewed with us.

Processed with Snapseed.

Part of the spread, all from the cookbook.
[top left cw: Vietnamese chicken coriander cabbage salad, caramelized salmon, coconut spare ribs, filet mignon shaken beef]

Processed with Snapseed.

They brought out so many extra dishes besides the ones that were listed.

[above are from the actual restaurant menu: crab puffs & jumbo prawn wontons]

We had a lot to eat! That’s a very Asian thing, which I L O V E.

In most Asian households, there are always leftovers; no one ever leaves hungry.

img_7860

My favorite dish was this FRENCH ONION PHO WITH BEEF RAVIOLI. The mini bone marrow added richness to each bite. The broth tasted super clean. This is definitely not your average pho. I am going to try and recreate this dish from the cookbook, one of these days!

img_7819

My Second favorite dish from the cookbook was probably this SPICY CHICKEN & SHRIMP RAMEN IN COGNAC XO SAUCE. If you know me, you know I NEED spice in my life.

And just when I thought, they weren’t going to bring out the garlic noodles….

img_7961

…they did!

img_7981

The book is written by Chef Helene An & one of her daughters, Jacqueline An. I had the pleasure of meeting both of them and they were really nice! They personally signed each book, which I thought was very thoughtful.

She was really tired, but I had to bother her for this selfie.

I loved listening to the An sisters, sharing their family’s story and memories associated with the food that inspired them. You, too, can read about their stories in their cookbook.

Try The World NEW Snack Box

$10 off first subscription of these snack boxes from Try The World.
Use my code ‘HungryHungry10

This month features snacks from Sweden, France, Thailand, Spain, and Portugal.

I really liked the Thai Taro Chips. They are baked, not fried.  The chips had a super crispy texture with a slightly sweet and buttery taste; something that I found addicting. The buttery-ness comes from the palm oil that they use. Let me know which was your fave!
