SF | where i like to eat in san francisco

i get asked this quite often, so i’ve finally decided to put together a short list of places that i like to go to in the city. these are some places that i would take friends from out of town.

if you see it on my instagram more than once, you know that i really do like it!

bakeries

b. patisserie

they have THE BEST kouign amann. i prefer their original flavor but they also have seasonal flavors. their chocolate chip cookie is also quite good.

arsicault bakery

their almond croissant & ham & cheese croissant are a must. but i think everything there is pretty tasty.

golden gate bakery

i love their super eggy egg tarts with their flakiest crusts. you have to check if they are open because they always seem to be on vacation. sometimes this site is updated to show if they are open or not.

noods

marufuku ramen

there is always an hour+ wait for this place because it is one of the better ramen spots in the city. i prefer the chicken paitan over the tonkotsu, but you should see for yourself!

marufuku ramen

1581 Webster St. Ste 235

San Francisco, CA 94115

quan ngon vietnamese noodle house

the star of the show is their chicken pho with the wide noodles. their chicken isn’t dry & their broth is very flavorful. sometimes the noodle to soup ratio is off, but if you like noodles, this shouldn’t be an issue.

casual dining

swan oyster depot

cash only & i recommend going during off peak hours [around 3-4pm] during the weekday. their crab back, crab cocktail, & oysters are my go-tos.

swan oyster depot

house of thai

the tom yum was flavorful and not too sweet. i also recommend getting everything spicy because they do not do things mildly !!!

tasting menus

avery

one of my favorite restaurants in SF. @chefrodneywages is very talented & i absolutely loved everything on the menu. my favorite dish is probably the hokkaido snow beef with bbq sauce.  & the caviar bumps are delicious & fun to do!

avery

1552 Fillmore St.

wako

my favorite sushi restaurant in SF. my favorite is their “uni taco” because their uni is sweet & the nori is extra crispy. i always get a few extra of those after the omakase is over.

October LA Part I, Day 1: Mr. Holmes Bakehouse & Szechuan Impression

It’s been a couple months since my last visit H O M E.

Yes, I still call LA my home even though I’ve been living in the Bay Area for about two years now.

First stop:

San Francisco-based Mr. Holmes Bakehouse just opened up a location in LA, Highland Park to be exact. They have a location in Seoul as well!

Went for a media preview & got their DONUTS, of course! [Thanks, @dailyfoodfeed for the invite.]

I definitely recommend the donuts, but depends on the filling. I usually like the cream-filled ones.

They did not have Cruffins for the preview but that is what they are known for, so you should try them at least once. It’s similar to the Cronut in texture and taste, but shaped like a muffin.

Afterwards, I was STARVING. I love donuts and all, but I needed something more substantial.

So I decided to go to Szechuan Impression.

I have been wanting to try this place for the longest time.

 Impressive Cold Noodle.

It was impressive, indeed. Good texture on these noodles as well as the spicy flavor.

 Lamb on Toothpicks.

I love cumin lamb and their version was flavorful. The meat was really soft.

Sautéed Spicy Crab

I try not to get crab too much because I don’t like cracking them. I wish the meat was already taken out of their shells but oh well. They left the best part intact, which is the crab eggs + the tomalley. I hate it when they take that out! The dish was #SPICYBUTNOTSPICY for me but I loved the numbing spice.

I was pleasantly surprised. I would go back to try other items on their menu.

Fiorella: Sneak Peek NEW Brunch

FIRST POST!

I had the opportunity to preview a part of  Fiorella‘s new brunch menu.

The highlight of my meal was this banana bread toast with coconut cream! Looks like your average toast, but the twist is that it’s actually banana bread. If you love banana bread and coconut, like I do, then this is definitely the dish to getfiorella spread.

Every dish was pretty (VERY photogenic), but it was also well balanced. What more do you expect from Chef Dante Cecchini, ex-chef de cuisine of Marlowe?

Check out this cute wallpaper!

It’s a great new addition to the Richmond District.  And I would definitely come back to try their dinner menu items.

Leave comments/requests below. I am always looking to improve my site.
